Headrests in Papua New Guinea often hold rich cultural importance and display carvings that signify clan traditional beliefs. This Yangoru headrest has two delicate spirit figures at either end of the piece, both with nasal incisions. There is evidence of ongoing use with a rich patina where the head is placed. The main section is supported by loya cane legs set in place with bound rattan.
